Williamsburg, VA
All of the buildings looked so cool- they shut off part of the street so no cars could drive and it made it that much better of an experience.
The church.
Ben in front of the Governer's Mansion.
The way they got around in those days- that's not looking so bad these day with gas prices as high as they are.
The Court House.
The Magazine- this is where they stored all their weapons and ammo.
The outside of the Magazine.
Street scene.
One of the many taverns on the street.
Another tavern. You could go in there and buy really interesting tasting Root Beer. Sorry but it just doesn't beat a cold A&W.
On one of the street corners they're doing some archealogical digging. It looked really cool.
Here's what it looked like as they were going about thier work.
The Capital. We didn't purchase a ticket that would allow us to go inside.
We've been very bad boys and girls!

Today we got up wayyy too early for my taste and made the 2 1/2 hour drive to Williamsburg, VA- we got here at around noon and checked into our hotel- we then went out to explore!
We went to the visitors center to get some pamphlets and then made our way to "Revolutionary City" It's the old, historic part of Williamsburg where they don't allow cars so it really authenticates the experience and makes it feel like you're there during that time period. We decided not to buy any of the passes that allow you to go inside certain buildings that have guides outside dressed up in period clothing but we were just fine with that- there was enough to see without having to spend any money- we saw a bunch of taverns, a blacksmith shop, the magazine building which we were able to go in- a small spiral stair case leads up to a circular room where they would keep all the weapons, ammunition, blankets etc. was really cool to see all the guns! The Bruton Parish Church, The Governer's Palace (very pretty) they had a big grassy area where they had games for kids to play from that time period. At the end of the street was the Governer's Mansion- we weren't able to go inside so we walked around taking pictures- the architecture was so amazing!!! On the way back down the street we had a nice lady take a picture of us in front of the Courthouse where they had those wood things that you stick your head and arms through to "hold you in" so you couldn't get out- kinda like old school shackles (I can't remember the name of what it's called) anyway I think that's the first picture that has both me AND Ben in it during our whole vacation- kinda sad!!
We were hot and sweaty and we wanted to get to Jamestown so we jumped in the car and got to the Visitors Center when a huge loud storm came through- thunder was right above us and the rain just pounded!! The lightning was pretty impressive!! Ben ran out, got the car and came and picked me up so that basically ruined our plans for Jamestown- we came back to the hotel and I had to do a conference call for work but when that was over we went down to the hotel pool and ended up talking to a guy in the hot tub who lives in New York so of course I want to know if he was there during 9-11 and it ends up he's a Sanitation Worker for NYC and he was coming back into town on 9-11 and landed 3 planes in back of one of the planes that eventually crashed!! He was called to ground zero about an hour later and worked there for 3 months helping sift through everything and using the machines that they normally use for hauling garbage but this time using it to haul pieces of the WTC to Staten Island. He said 2 of his good buddies got really sick and 1 had already died and the other one is dealing with lung cancer- he experienced some rashes on his skin but so far he's healthy! It's amazing the people you meet and the stories they tell!!
We came back up the room, got changed and headed out to the outlet malls- man, no matter where you go- You can't get away from those outlet malls!!!
Tomorrow we're going to do Jamestown and Yorktown and then make our way back to DC to get on the plane to go home!!! I miss my children and I know Ben really misses them too- we talked to them last night and they were both crying and it really shook Ben up- I think it's so sweet that Ben loves his children sooo much that he even got a little choked up too (I love them too but i'm not going to lie- this has been such a wonderful vacation for me!!!)
I hope you all have enjoyed my day by day blogging about our amazing adventure!! It's been really fun to recount everything i've/we've done- I was telling Ben today that it feels like i've been here for at least a month with everything i've done and seen- so far, i've taken 434 pictures!!
I will probably write again on Thursday because we don't get home until really late tomorrow!!!

It sounds like you guys have been having a busy but fun time! Thankfully Mike and I have already seen the sights, so we didn't have to drag the kids around with us to everything. We were at the fireworks on the side of the Washington Monument by the Reflecting Pool as well, I can't believe we missed you! ;) I am glad you all got away for a fun trip!
